Finding Peace Amid Turmoil
John 16:33: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
How do we find peace in a world with so much turmoil? Every time we turn on the television, social media, or radio, we are bombarded with bad news, violence in our community, senseless mass shootings, war, books being banned, frightening gun laws, etc. It can all be overwhelming, leading to hopelessness and despair. Where's peace when we need it? I believe peace can be found in God's promise never to leave or forsake us. Peace can be found in God's word, no matter what happens. Peace can be found in the early morning hours through prayer and meditation. Peace can be found in the rising and setting of the sun. Peace can be found in the moon's glow and the rising tide. Peace can be had, but we must seek it out, not only for ourselves but for our neighbors as well. How we feel at any given time comes down to our perspective and how we respond to situations when they arise. When we look at all Jesus faced during his lifetime, we will find that Jesus had moments of unrest and uncertainty, but Jesus did not let what was happening around him disrupt his peace or dictate how he would live in the world. As believers, we are called to do the same. We must remember our help and strength come from God and God alone. Do not be afraid or discouraged as we continue on this life journey. Be empowered to do something to make our community better.
Today, claim and spread peace.
Blessings,
Pastor Pat
